Flexible cooling mats with separate chambers
These water-filled cooling mats bend between their chambers, even when frozen. Small and Large can be arranged to suit different packouts in insulated boxes and are suitable for repeated use and direct food contact.
TWO STANDARD SIZES
Small or Large?
Small has six chambers over 155 × 130 mm, while Large has 30 chambers over 380 × 250 mm. Choose according to the area to be covered, the available internal space and the planned arrangement.

The compact size suits smaller areas within the packout. Flexible sections connect the six chambers.

The larger size covers more area. Bending the sections between the 30 chambers allows the mat to fit the planned packout.

FLEXIBLE THROUGH SEGMENTATION
The sections between the chambers allow the mat to bend
Each chamber contains a water-based coolant. The connections between the chambers remain flexible, so you can position the mat even after freezing.
The mat bends between the chambers. The frozen filling inside each chamber remains solid.
Check the packout with the mat frozen. Leave enough room for the chambers and seals so they are not crushed when the box is closed.

Cooling mat, gel pack or hard shell?
Flexible cooling mats
Separate chambers joined by flexible sections. The mat can be bent between the chambers even when frozen. The variants shown here are water-based.
Gel packs
Gel-filled film pouches without the separate chambers of a cooling mat. During freezing, keep the pouch in the shape needed for packing.
Hard-shell coolant packs
A robust, rigid shell for repeated use. Suitable when a fixed pack shape fits the shipping process and flexible sections are not needed.

Choose a mat that fits your insulated box
When choosing a box size, allow room for the products, cooling mats and any separating layers. Check that the arrangement works with the mats in the state required for packing.
Our EPS range includes insulated boxes without accessories. If you need a tested packout with documented temperature control, choose a pre-qualified system configuration.
CHOOSING AND USING COOLING MATS
Questions about segmented cooling mats
Do the cooling mats stay flexible when frozen?
Yes. Flexible sections connect the individual chambers. The mat remains bendable at these points even when the water-based filling inside the chambers is frozen.
Are cooling mats and refrigerant mats the same product?
Yes. The segmented Small and Large cooling mats shown here are listed as Flexible refrigerant mats on the corresponding product enquiry page. Select the size you need there.
Are the mats suitable for direct food contact?
The variants described here are suitable. You should also check that the coolant temperature is appropriate for the food and identify the hygiene requirements that apply.
Can the cooling mats be reused?
Yes. Both sizes are designed for repeated use. Check cleanliness, film and seals before each use. Remove damaged or leaking mats from use.
How long do the cooling mats keep products cool?
A fixed duration cannot be specified for the mat alone. It depends on the complete packaging, the quantity and preparation of the mats, the payload and the transport temperature profile.
What are Small and Large filled with?
Small and Large have an entirely water-based filling with a melting point of around 0 °C. For coolant packs with other melting points, see the PCM range.
