Single-Use Packaging
Single-use packaging is intended for one specified use. In temperature-controlled shipping, it is usually not prepared for another shipment within an organised reuse system after delivery. The term describes the intended use, not automatically the material or disposal route.
What should be considered when selecting a single-use solution?
- The packaging must meet the temperature requirements, shipping duration and mechanical stresses of the intended transport.
- Packing effort, storage requirements and freight costs influence the cost of each shipment.
- Recipients need suitable information on separating and disposing of the components.
Does single-use mean that no component can be used again?
Not necessarily. Individual components may be suitable for further applications if the manufacturer allows this and their condition is checked. This does not automatically create an approved reuse system. Recyclability and single use are also not mutually exclusive. Environmental assessment should consider the entire life cycle and actual disposal conditions.
