What to consider when choosing an insulated box
Internal space and payload
Start with the dimensions and quantity of your goods. Then allow space for coolant packs in the intended arrangement.
Wall thickness and external dimensions
The insulation, available internal space and shipping volume need to work together. Shippers with the same volume in litres do not necessarily have the same internal dimensions.
Temperature and shipping duration
Consider the required product temperature range, shipping duration and external temperatures. The thermal design covers the complete packaging system.

Options for larger shipments
Our range also includes large EPS insulated shippers and pallet formats. Selected shippers can be expanded with extension frames to increase the internal space.
Tell us the internal dimensions, payload and pallet size you need. We will match the box, frames and handling arrangements to your application.
A pallet format alone does not make a pre-qualified shipping system. Choose a tested complete system separately according to the temperature range and shipping duration.
INSULATED BOX + MATCHING COOLANT PACKS
Match your insulated box and coolant packs
Depending on the application, EPS insulated shippers can be combined with water-based or PCM coolant packs. Options include gel packs, Foam Bricks and hard-shell coolant packs.
The coolant pack type, quantity, positioning and pre-conditioning are matched to the box and shipping requirements. Suitable outer cartons are also available.
For use with dry ice: Select the Trockeneis-Thermoboxen (dry ice insulated shippers) product group in the insulated box finder. The suitability of the specific combination is assessed for your application.

Packaging to suit your shipments
Food and fresh food logistics
For temperature-sensitive food shipments, choose the box and coolant packs according to the product temperature, payload and shipping duration. The internal space and packing process should suit your daily volumes.
Pharmaceuticals and biotech
Need documented temperature control? Our pre-qualified systems combine insulated packaging, specified coolant packs and packing instructions. The test results apply to the specific configuration tested.
Insulated box or complete system? This page presents the standard EPS range as a packaging component. A polystyrene box on its own has no universally guaranteed cooling duration without a defined packout and test conditions.
EPS AS A MATERIAL
Use recycled content. Keep material in circulation.
Our white EPS insulated shippers are available with up to 35% recycled content. For grey EPS (Neopor), the recycled content is 30%. The materials used have mechanical and thermal properties comparable to conventional EPS.
EPS is recyclable. Whether a used box can be reused or recycled depends on factors such as its condition, cleanliness, application and the available collection and recycling routes.
For large production runs: Material options with recycled feedstock allocated through a mass balance approach are also possible. This allocation does not describe the amount of recycled material physically present. We will discuss availability and supporting documentation with you.

STANDARD SIZES FIRST · CUSTOM DESIGNS WHEN NEEDED
No standard size that fits?
We can develop an insulated box for your requirements. We start with your goods, the required internal dimensions, temperature range and shipping duration.
Drawings or CAD data are used to create initial samples, such as machined EPS prototypes. These form the basis for further design work and preparation for series production.
For an initial assessment: provide the internal dimensions, payload, temperature requirements, shipping duration and approximate annual quantity. Tooling and development costs for a custom solution are agreed separately.
THERMOCON brings together the Schaumaplast Group’s cold chain expertise. The group has worked with bead foams since 1964, combining expertise in materials processing, development and manufacturing.

What would you like to know before choosing a box?
How do I choose the right size?
Measure the goods including their product packaging, and allow space for coolant packs. Compare the internal dimensions, as well as the volume in litres. The finder lets you narrow down your selection accordingly.
Are coolant packs and an outer carton included?
The standard EPS range is presented here as insulated shippers without accessories. Coolant packs and an outer carton can be added to suit the application. The exact scope of supply is specified in our quotation.
How long does a polystyrene box maintain the temperature?
This cannot be determined from the box alone. Insulation, coolant packs, pre-conditioning, payload and external temperature all act together. Documented shipping durations are available for the specific systems tested.
Are there tooling costs for a standard size?
Existing standard sizes require no new mould. For a custom design, we agree the necessary development steps and costs with you separately.
Can EPS insulated shippers be reused?
This may be possible, depending on the application and the condition of the box. Before reuse, assess any damage, cleanliness and the requirements of your shipping process.
Are larger or adjustable formats available?
Yes. The range includes pallet formats and selected shippers with extension frames. Tell us the required internal dimensions and planned payload so we can identify a suitable option.
