Cooling Mat
A cooling mat for shipping is a flat cooling element with several separate chambers. In THERMOCON’s segmented versions, these are filled with water. The connections between the chambers remain flexible, allowing the mat to fit an intended packout even when its filling is frozen.
Where does the flexibility come from?
The mat bends between the chambers; the ice inside each chamber remains solid. This segmentation distinguishes the mat from a single gel pack and a rigid-shell pack. In the THERMOCON range, this format is also called a flexible cooling cushion.
What should be considered during packing?
- Check the space required when frozen. Chambers and sealed seams must not be compressed when closing the shipper.
- Select the arrangement, quantity and preparation according to the packing instructions. Direct contact with freeze-sensitive goods must have been assessed within the system.
- Check for damage and cleanliness before each reuse. Flexibility and surface coverage do not independently demonstrate temperature maintenance.
