EPP – Expanded Polypropylene

EPP stands for expanded polypropylene. This lightweight, predominantly closed-cell bead foam combines thermal insulation with mechanical energy absorption and recovery after loading. It can be used to manufacture robust moulded parts, such as protective components or parts of reusable thermal packaging.

Which properties are useful in shipping?

  • The material can absorb mechanical impacts and recover after suitable loads. Its behaviour and load capacity depend on the specific version.
  • The foam structure reduces heat transfer. The shipper’s performance is also determined by its geometry, lid and joints.
  • A dimensionally stable construction can support defined packing procedures and repeated handling.

Is every EPP shipper automatically suitable for reuse?

No. A reusable design requires suitable components, condition checks and a controlled return process. Cleaning, temperature resistance and any food contact must also be assessed using the relevant product specifications. EPP describes the material family; a stated number of uses or thermal protection duration requires separate evidence.
