Packout
A packout is the defined configuration of shipping packaging: the shipper, cooling medium, inner packaging and product are combined in a specified arrangement. This includes the permitted load and initial thermal states. The packout describes the configuration; the packing instructions describe how to assemble it in practice.
Which characteristics must be unambiguous?
- Component types and quantities, for example the exact coolant pack version and its positions.
- Product load, separating layers, clearances and the closure state of the complete packaging.
- Preconditioning and possible variants, such as a separate summer or winter packout.
Can similar components be substituted?
Equal dimensions or weight do not demonstrate thermal equivalence. A different coolant pack, a modified insert or an additional separating layer can change heat transfer and available space. Deviations are therefore assessed through qualification or change control. A stated protection duration applies to the tested configuration; it cannot simply be transferred to the empty shipper or a single cooling element.
