PCM Coolant Pack
A PCM coolant pack is a cooling element containing a specifically selected phase change material. The casing and filling form a component that can absorb or release heat within a particular temperature range. Depending on the design, it may take the form of a rigid-shell pack, foam brick or gel pack.
Which specifications describe the component?
- The melting range and heat storage capacity of the filling: together with the filling quantity, these determine the thermal function the element can fulfil.
- Dimensions, geometry and casing: these must suit its position in the insulated shipper and the mechanical requirements.
- Preconditioning: the defined initial state determines the heat absorption or release available during transport.
Is a +5 °C PCM automatically suitable for +2 to +8 °C?
The melting point is a selection criterion, not a guarantee of product temperature. Only the combination of pack, insulation, load, arrangement and ambient profile establishes the achievable protection duration. Changes to the pack type or its preparation must therefore be assessed for the complete system.
