On 6 and 7 October 2026, specialists from the pharmaceutical industry, air freight and logistics met in Copenhagen for FlyPharma Copenhagen 2026. Martin Raack attended on behalf of THERMOCON.
One of the highlights was a visit to DHL’s Healthcare Facility at Copenhagen Airport on 7 October. Together with SAS Cargo, DHL gave participants an insight into specialist pharmaceutical handling and the processes involved in flying temperature-sensitive healthcare products.
The cold chain extends beyond the flight
In international pharmaceutical transport, the time spent in the aircraft is only part of the journey. The handovers between transport stages matter too: from preparing a shipment to handling, temporary storage and transfer to the next logistics partner.
The Copenhagen visit offered an opportunity to see these connections from an operational air-freight perspective. Of particular interest to THERMOCON was how specialist facilities, transport infrastructure and logistics processes work together.
What does this mean for passive thermal packaging?
Passive thermal packaging needs to suit the actual shipping requirements. Key factors include the required temperature range, total journey time, expected ambient temperature profile and payload. The interaction between insulation, cooling elements and the packout is equally important.
THERMOCON develops, manufactures and qualifies passive thermal packaging solutions for temperature-sensitive products. Seeing operations at the airport reinforces why packaging requirements should be coordinated with the logistics partners involved as early as possible.
The right packaging cannot be selected independently of the intended transport route.
Exchanging perspectives across the pharmaceutical supply chain
FlyPharma Copenhagen gave THERMOCON an opportunity to bring together perspectives from the pharmaceutical industry, air freight and logistics, and to gain practical insights into international cold chain operations.
Thank you to DHL, SAS Cargo and FlyPharma Conferences for the insights and professional exchange.
